New shop in Notts launched

The Dandy Gent team is proud to announce the opening of its third traditional barber shop, this time in the heart of Nottingham’s Southside.

‘The Dandy Gent at Hopkinson’ is just a few steps from Nottingham’s busy train station on the first floor of Hopkinson Vintage & Antique Centre, home of Hops Coffee House and Bar.

“We’re now up and running in Nottingham – and it’s proving a red-hot location with heaps of potential.” Explains owner and founder of Derby’s premier barbershop group, Shane O’Shaughnessy.

“Hopkinson is a popular venue for anyone with a love of all things vintage and, thanks to the bar and coffee house downstairs, it’s a very busy meeting place and stop-off for many – including train travellers, shoppers and local workers.

Opening a barber shop here is a natural fit and bookings are steadily growing in momentum.” he continued.

The new Nottingham shop is initially open on Monday to Saturday from 10.30am-6pm and will expand hours as demand increases. Three of The Dandy Gent’s popular barbers; Senior Barbers, Austin Roots and Callum Reed and Barber, Stu Parker, are currently based in the Nottingham shop, with Shane and Manager, Sarah, on the lookout for two new experienced barbers to join the team.

Franchise First for The Dandy Gent

Founder of renowned barbershop brand The Dandy Gent, Shane O’Shaughnessy, has announced that recently promoted Senior Barber, Shaun Hoolan, has become the Derby-based company’s first-ever franchisee – taking over ownership of the five-year-old Dandy Gent branch on Nuns Street.

“I’m excited, of course, this is a great opportunity and The Dandy Gent is a fantastic brand to be a part of.” Said Shaun. “I love my work at the shop – and all that it entails – and was blown away when Shane offered me the franchise.

Continued Shaun, “There are no plans for major changes to the shop. In fact, Shane and I will be working closer than ever now, to ensure that The Dandy Gent brand keeps moving forward and growing in stature.”

Said Shane, “Shaun is a fine ambassador for The Dandy Gent brand and has an instinctive head for business. His management, and now ownership, of the Nuns Street shop was a natural progression and allows me to concentrate more of my time on growing the Irongate shop and development of new grooming products.”

This year has already seen The Dandy Gent’s range of traditional grooming products increase dramatically, with the launch of two new beard oil fragrances, a new beard balm and two colognes. In addition, the Irongate branch of The Dandy Gent is currently undergoing works to increase barber capacity from 4 to 7 permanent staff.

“Both sides of the business are thriving due to a lot of hard work and ambition” Continued Shane. “We will carry on growing the patronage of both barbershops together and – with the massive help from my wife Sherri – the manufacture and sales of some of the world’s finest grooming products.”

Grooming essentials for gents

The growth of men’s interest in fine grooming is never more evident than when you spend just five minutes in Derby’s most talked about barbershop, The Dandy Gent. Here are the essentials to a fine daily regime, from Master Barber, Shane O’Shaughnessy, its owner and founder.

A superior shave
Invest in a good weighty razor and quality blades. Always use shaving oil to soften the skin and hair, then a quality shaving cream or soap to aid a close, smooth shave. Finish with a splash of cold water and massage in a good re-hydration gel. Using the right products will stop dryness, redness, rashes and burning – guaranteed!

Feed the Beard
Bearded gents – massage in a few drops of beard oil to soften your hair and reduce redness and inflammation of your skin around the follicle.

If it’s more control you’re looking for, get the same conditioning benefits from our beard balm.

Facial-fuzz once-over
Check your face, neck, brows, ears, nose and throat for any fuzz, strays and hair growth that are blurring your lines. Pluck, shave or trim as needed – or ask your barber to help.

Our barbers will line out your face, neck and chin for an extra-sharp finish, if that’s the look you’re after.

Moisturise
Whatever the time of year, invest in a good light moisturiser with a Sun Protection Factor of 15. Drink plenty of water throughout the day too, and hydrate from within!

For the best advice on your grooming regime, always talk to your Dandy Gent barber – that’s what we’re here for!
